Today Mei-Lin got her Italian passport from the Asylum.

It took us three Desperate Horde Monday attempts to finally catch the split millisecond which allowed us to book an appointment, but we eventually managed it. The Asylum was very crowded, luckily we arrived early. The employee with whom we interacted told us that, generally, it takes minimum 6 months from the AIRE enrollment (and hence ~7 months after obtaining Italian citizenship) before they can issue the passport. But in Mei-Lin’s case, it was possible to do it immediately because, apparently, she obtained citizenship through naturalization (I think there was a mistake, she got it through marriage, LOL).
I also took the liberty of politely asking the employee if he knew why in Hell the Asylum Telephonic Horror System works that way, i.e. without on-call waiting. He asked around, and then he said:
It’s a problem of SwissCom, they cannot manage more than 10 people in line, and we have many more than that.
AYFKM.
Anyway, today is a good day. Clearly this passport will simplify things a lot for all of us, especially while traveling. But for Mei-Lin, specifically, this is just a preliminary step towards something even more important: the Swiss C permit. Stay tuned for that!
