ANobAG Quest #4: Family Allowances and Retirement Plan

Now that I am officially registered as ANobAG I can take care of a couple minor things.

An actually not-so-minor one is childcare allowance: this is money that everyone taking care of children in Switzerland, regardless of income, receives on a monthly basis. It’s roughly 200 CHF (215 EUR / 227 USD) per child, per month, so not really a negligible amount! Usually it’s the employer which arranges the request, but in my case I have to request it directly to the AHV/AVS. Now that I am registered as ANobAG and I have my own registration number, I could fill a relatively simple form and send it by email. Fun fact: the form required to add as attachment either the kids’ birth certificate, or the Swiss Family Grimoire Book. SO LUCKY THAT I GOT THEM BEFOREHAND AT THE COST OF MY OWN SANITY, OH YES.

The other thing is the 2nd pillar for retirement plan. As previously discussed, it’s really tricky to get one in my case. I did some research, and the long story short is that I will probably rather go with an extended 3rd pillar starting in 2025, because all other options (including an obscure one called “pillar 1e”) either don’t apply to me or are not convenient. Maybe I will write more about it another time, but this is more regarding Swiss financial planning than AYFKM BUREAUCRACY HELL, so not really on topic on this blog.

Anyway, not much left to do for now until next year. LUCKILY. Vacation time finally? Maybe? Hopefully?
