Some More Updates on Mei-Lin’s Italian Nationality Application

A few updates on Mei-Lin’s Italian Nationality Application.

First of all, we have ordered online and received after a few days the (apostilled) Swiss police records certificate for Mei-Lin (that was the easy part).

Then we called the center where Mei-Lin did the italian language exam for citizenship, because we have not received the official certificate yet. Back in the time they told us it usually takes up to FOUR MONTHS to have it ready, but four months have passed now. At the phone they told us that, yes, the shipping of the certificates from Italy has been delayed by the summer holidays, the stock exchange, and the cancellation of some cool series on Netflix, and that some people called to protest already. They told us that the certificate will probably arrive within 1-2 weeks, and that we will be notified when this happens.

Finally, we got news from the Asylum regarding the Schroedinger’s police certificate from Japan. The email reads more or less like this:

Dear Mei-Lin,

we are not sure what might happen when you open that envelope from Japan.

Just to be sure, please come in person to the Asylum on [inconvenient date and time] with a valid ID and the envelope.

We will open it together with one of our exorcists, who will then put a “VISTO” stamp on it while reading an ancient scroll from within a pentacle.

Then you can continue with the application process, i.e., have the content translated by a sworn translator.

This only applies provided the content does not kill the translator. Otherwise, we will have to find another solution.

I would like the reader to appreciate the following. As you might remember, once we have Mei-Lin’s italian language certificate, taiwanese birth certificate, Household Registration Transcript, and police records certificates from Japan, Switzerland and Taiwan, and after we have legalized/apostilled/double-legalized them, and after we have translated to Italian all of these documents that are not in Italian already, we have to send all of them to the Asylum.

But each of them (except the language certificate) must not be older than six months. Otherwise the application gets rejected and we have to start from scratch.

Do you realize how much Machiavellian synchronization it takes to make all this shit happen in such a way that all things align within this six months window?
